Las Catrinas are part of the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead. Inspired by the well-known engraving by José Guadalupe Posada, they are also present in great works of art such as the mural “A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Alameda” by Diego Rivera.

 

BASES:

1. All people of any gender identity, age, or nationality living in Redwood City may participate.
2. The deadline for participation is October 27.
3. The Contestants must send videos and photographs to the email cccbestcatrina@gmail.com
4. The winners will be announced on the day of the Festival in Downtown Redwood City and Casa Círculo Cultural’s Facebook page on Sunday, November 6.
5. The award ceremony will occur on the same day of the event, November 6.

 

PARTICIPATION MECHANICS:

1. Send an email to cccbestcatrina@gmail.com with the following information: 1) full name and age of the Catrina, Catrín, or Catrincita, 2) a photo with a general description of the dress or theme, 3) a video (in the next section you will find all the instructions to do it).
2. Once we have received your email with all the requested information, you will receive an email confirming that you are already participating and the number that we will use to identify you.

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE VIDEO:

La Catrina, Catrín, or Catrincita must make the total personification (gestures, postures, walk, model, or dance) in a video with a duration of 30 seconds to 1 minute). The Catrinas, Catrines, and Catrincitas can interact in the video as long as they maintain respect and composure, but they cannot speak. Costumes may be made of any material but may not be Halloween-themed.

ASPECTS TO QUALIFY:

1) Creativity 20%

2) Clothing 20%

3) Makeup 20%

4) Charisma/Popular Support 20%.* This aspect will be graded according to the Likes the contestant receives on Facebook.

 

AWARDS:
